Martin Kadai, one of the key spokespeople during the coronavirus crisis and drafter of earlier risk analyses, is resigning as head of the emergency medicine department of the Estonian Health Board.

Spokespeople for the Estonian Health Board told Postimees that Kadai's last day in office will be July 5.

"Trust is a two-way street -- if the government doesn't trust us, the same applies in reverse. Conflicts and confusion resulted in the removal of the head of the agency, and I cannot see any possibility to continue, either, as I was in many ways also behind the Health Board's policy during the crisis. Our approach has been to act in a balanced and evidence-based manner. In a small state where resources are limited, cooperation is needed. If there is no cooperation, it is as they say -- whoever is wiser will give in," Kadai said, according to Postimees.

The beginning of June saw the resignation of Jelena Tomassova as deputy director general of the Health Board responsible for health protection. Merike Jurilo is resigning as director general of the Health Board from Wednesday.
