BC, Tallinn, 13.05.2020.Print version
Estonian Minister of Foreign Trade and IT Raul Siem on Wednesday sent a letter to members of the management board of the state-owned postal services company Eesti Post, which operates under the Omniva brand, halting post office closures, including those that have already been initiated, writes LETA/BNS.
"Despite volumes in universal postal services having
declined from year to year, the service continues to have an important social
and regional dimension, and the high-quality provision of thereof is important
to all residents of the state," the minister's letter reads.
Siem said that the reorganization of the postal network is a
long-term process, the effects of which must be thoroughly analyzed.
"Representatives of local governments and communities must
definitely be included in this process in order to reach a sustainable
compromise solution that is suitable for all parties," he said.
Should the closure of any post offices prove indispensable,
it must first be coordinated with the Ministry of Economic Affairs and
Communications.
