The value of the Latvian media group Diena and the Latvian business daily "Dienas Bizness" ("DB") purchase deal could be around LVL 9 million, the newspaper Diena reports today.

Estimates, made by the newspaper, and analysis of the current economic situation allow to conclude that this sum of money could cover the debts of "Diena" and "DB", writes LETA.

According to Diena's balance of payments in May, its debt to the previous owners, Bonnier Group, was likely to stand at around LVL 6.5 million. "DB" debt could be around one million lats.

This is just a beginning for further consolidation of Latvian and Baltic media market, said the new owner of the media concern, Aleksandrs Tralmaks, commenting on the “Diena" and "DB" purchase deal.

According to Diena's information, 50% of the money for the deal came from Estonian entrepreneur Kalle Norberg, whereas the other half was financed by the chairman of Ekspress Group, Gunnar Kobin, and the founders of the company Skype.

Tralmaks said he would announce on Wednesday the names of persons, who provided the loan to his company Nedela S.A. for the deal.

According to Tralmaks, Nedela S.A. could be interested in purchasing also other media enterprises in the Baltic States. "There are too many players in the media market in Latvia; the crisis will wipe the weak ones off the map," he said.

As reported, last weekend, the company Nedela S.A., directed by Tralmaks, former CEO of the newspaper "Diena", acquired the Latvian media group Diena and the Latvian business daily "Dienas Bizness" from Bonnier Business Press.
