Ruta Grikmane, representative of Maxima Latvija, informed LETA that the steepest increase was observed in sales of squash and lettuce grown in Latvia, sales volume of which increased 198% and 179.8%, compared with the respective period of last year respectively.
Also sales of Latvia-grown cucumbers and leek have risen sharply.
Grikmane comments that buyers purchase significantly more locally grown products since the program "From Harvest to Harvest", promoting local production, has been launched.
Currently, around 75% of vegetables sold at "Maxima" supermarkets are produced by local farmers; last year 9,920 tons of locally grown vegetables were sold, with the most popular products being cabbage, carrots, onions, and potatoes.
