Latvian tax authority, health care employers sign cooperation memorandum
As the State Revenue Service is responsible for tax administration, it sees the fight against the shadow economy in both private and public health care sectors as one of the main goals of this cooperation.
The memorandum specifies the health care segments where tax evasion is most widespread, for example, dentistry, plastic surgery, massage services and services of physiotherapists and psychotherapists.
The Association of Health Care Employers in its turn undertook to provide the State Revenue Service with the information about the tax evasion methods used by certain business operators and other information useful for tax administration purposes.
Dace Peleka, Acting Director General of the State Revenue Service, said the cooperation would enable the tax authority to carry out more focused inspections by grouping the priorities and elaborating the inspection methods.
Maris Revalds, Board Chairman of the Association of Health Care Employers, said the cooperation memorandum signed today was only the first step towards better order in health care and that the association hoped for signing of a more comprehensive memorandum between all stakeholders in the nearest future.
