Vilkyskiu dairy slowly making headway in China's market

Vilkyskiu Pienine, which was the first Lithuanian dairy to launch exports to China in early 2017, has not dropped plans to gain a foothold in the giant market, but acknowledges that the process has been slow, reports LETA/BNS.

"One or two containers with our products leave for China, but our product flow to that country isn't really active," Vilkyskiu Pienine CEO Gintaras Bertasius told BNS.

"The Chinese market is overindulged and saturated. The whole world wants to be there, which isn't so easy. But we are finding our customers and are moving forward little by little," he added.

According to Bertasius, the company currently exports mozzarella cheese to China and has plans to offer whey products to the market in the future.

"All the work is still ahead, but there is room for these products in China's market. I have to admit that things are going very slowly in Asia, just like in the Arab countries, but we aren't giving up our plans," he said.

Vilkyskiu Pienine saw its consolidated sales for January through May fall by 17% year-on-year to 38.1 million euros. In May alone, sales remained stable at 9.55 million euros.
