Told by Agency of Medicines, Apotheka stops issuing medicines at PERH
The Agency
of Medicines forbade the pharmacy situated in the biggest hospital of Estonia
from issuing medicines, Kadri Ulla,
CEO of Terve Pere Apteek, said
in a press release. The company continues selling food supplements on the
premises of the pharmacy and enables customers to order medicines for delivery
to a desired location.
Ulla said that orders placed online before 2 p.m. will
be delivered for free on the same day, and orders placed after 2 p.m. the
following day. "Within the boundaries of Tallinn we try and deliver
medicines the same day," Ulla said.
"We have contested the decision of the Agency of
Medicines to suspend the activity license of the pharmacy situated on the
hospital's premises with the Administrative Court and have sought provisional
legal protection so that the pharmacy can resume normal operation as soon as
possible," the CEO added.
The Agency of Medicines meanwhile said in a press
release that it has partially suspended the activity license of Terve Pere Apteek OU until the latter presents a valid rental agreement proving its
right to use the premises at PERH.
The Agency of Medicines said that while it does not
interfere in the dispute of Terve Pere Apteek OU and PERH on the lease to premises, it is its
duty to check the abidance of the holder of an activity license by the
requirements of the activity license.
The procedure conducted by the Agency of Medicines is
ongoing and the agency is awaiting the business operator's explanations
concerning the further actions of Terve Pere Apteek OU to
achieve consistency with requirements. If the owner of the pharmacy believes
that there is no inconsistency, it must present to the Agency of Medicines
documents proving this, which the company has not done to date, the Agency of
Medicines said on Monday.
Terve Pere Apteek, operator of pharmacies under the Apotheka brand, has been running
a pharmacy at PERH for years. This summer, as the pharmacy's rent
agreement was about to expire, the hospital staged a competition for the
contract to operate the pharmacy, which was won by Benu Apteek Eesti OU.
When the rent agreement expired in October, Terve Pere Apteek refused to vacate the premises citing shortcomings in the conduct of
the competition and a valid accord concerning rent with PERH.
Terve Pere Akteek OU belongs to Magnum AS, a holding of Up Invest whose other
holdings include BNS.
