BC, Riga, 05.09.2017.Print version
The government of Latvia today decided to declare state of emergency in agricultural sector in two more countries – Sala and Akniste, LETA learned from the Cabinet of Ministers.

The Agricultural Ministry reminded that on August 29 state of emergency in the agricultural sector was declared in 27 counties in eastern Latvian Latgale region, and partly in northern Vidzeme and southern Kurzeme regions due to the heavy rainfalls and floods for a time period until November 30. The ministry, however, has received requests to declare state of emergency also in Sala and Akniste countries.

The situation in the affected territories is critical – crops have been destroyed by the flooding, and it is still not possible to harvest the crops.

As reported, many areas in Latgale province were flooded following heavy rains last week, which did major damage to crops, several regional and local roads, and buildings. Loss has been estimated at several millions of euros.
