Prices of dairy products, boiled sausages, vegetables climbed in Q2 in Latvia

During the second quarter of this year, prices climbed for dairy products, boiled sausages and vegetables, Inguna Gulbe, the head of the Latvian Agricultural Market Promotion Center (LTVC), told LETA.

The price of beetroot rose at the steepest pace in the second quarter of 2017, from EUR 0.31 to EUR 0.64 per kilogram, and cabbages rose in price from EUR 0.34 to EUR 0.68 per kilogram.

 

Meanwhile, the potato price jumped 54%, from EUR 0.35 to EUR 0.54 per kilogram, and fruit became costlier as well. Also, the average price of boiled sausages rose by 13%, from EUR 4.37 to EUR 4.91 per kilogram, and the price of Rakvere frankfurters climbed 4%, from EUR 4.29 to EUR 4.46 per kilogram.

 

The price of sour cream with 25% fat content went up 11%, from EUR 2.7 to EUR 3 per kilogram. Curd with 9% fat content, butter and Karums cream all rose in price by 10%.

 

The average price of rye bread increased by 8% during the second quarter of 2017, from EUR 1.12 to EUR 1.21 per kilogram, and the price of sunflower oil rose 6%, from EUR 2.09 to EUR 2.22 per liter.

 

At the same time, locally grown cucumbers became 3.6 times cheaper as their price fell from EUR 5.61 to EUR 1.55 per kilogram, and the price locally grown tomatoes fell 2.5 times, from EUR 6.31 to EUR 2.56.

 

LTVC was established in 1995 as the structural unit of the Latvian State Agriculture Economics Institute. Since May 1, 2004, LTVC is commissioned with collecting the information and reporting to the European Commission on the prices and volumes of certain agricultural products.
