Estonian maker of skin bleach products eyeing Asian market

Enterprise Estonia has given 18,000 euros to the manufacturer of peat based beauty products Turbliss OU to carry out research with a view to entering the Asian market, reports LETA/BNS.

Jane Pappel, board member of Turbliss OU, said the research is necessary to be able to enter other markets. One of the aims of the survey is to offer a scientific explanation of the skin-bleaching effect of peat.

"The bleach effect is very big extra value, because on the cosmetics market these products are a fully separate category. Especially on the Asian market, which is immense," Pappel told.

"When people there wish to have very light skin, they use very powerful artificial agents to bleach their skin. Research supporting our finding that peat is the only 100% natural product which has a similar effect would be super, because the whole world is on the lookout for natural products and the market for natural products keep growing," she added.

"We know by our own experience and by the experience of our clients that our product works, but we need a scientific explanation of why peat has the kind of effect on skin that it has. Why it bleaches, for instance, and what processes take place inside the skin as a result of exposure to peat," Pappel said.

Even though South Korea and Singapore conduct tests of their own on the product, having scientific proof available from the manufacturer gives a lot of value added in exporting the product, the manager added. "When dermatological tests prove the product's effectiveness and you can put that on the package with a peaceful mind, it will give you an advantage in sales because you haven't just produced a mix of something," Pappel said.

Pappel said Turbliss has a contract with the U.K. portal Lovelula and the European branch of Amazon. Their products are also sold in Russia.

Previously the company has received a grant from Enterprise Estonia in 2014 to conducts surveys of peat and a business startup grant in 2016.

The total price tag of the project towards which Enterprise Estonia provided 18,206 euros is 26,008 euros.
