Amount of fresh milk supplied by Latvian dairy farmers in April down 0.7% y-o-y

The amount of fresh milk supplied by Latvian dairy farmers in April this year was 62,832.6 tons, down by 0.7% % from 63.263.6 tons sold in April 2016, according to the information from the Agricultural Data Center writes LETA.

The number of dairy cows in Latvia keeps shrinking. In April 2016, there were 161,932 dairy cows registered in Latvia but by April 2017, their number has decreased by 4.7% to 154,249.


Milk purchase price edged down in Latvia in April this year to EUR 290.8 per ton on average as compared to EUR 295 in March this year. Y-o-y, average milk purchase price has increased by 49.2% from EUR 194.9 per ton in April 2016. In the EU, average milk purchase price in April this year was EUR 330 per ton or by 0.3% less than in March 2017.


In March this year the amount of fresh milk supplied by Latvian dairy farmers remained almost unchanged y-o-y at 63,374.3 tons but average milk purchase price fell a little to EUR 295 per ton compared to EUR 300 in February this year.
