In March 2017, the average milk purchase price in Latvia dropped by 1.7 percent from February, according to preliminary figures released by the Latvian Central Dairy Association writes LETA.

The association’s board chairman Janis Solks told LETA that the milk purchase price averaged at EUR 294.98 per ton in March of this year, which was a 1.7% drop from the previous month. The reduction of the milk price in March was small and could only be considered a fluctuation, not a general trend, Solks said, adding that on the whole the milk purchase price was stable.

The amount of daily milk purchases in March 2017 was by 20 tons higher than in February. The milk purchases increased as the milk yield grew with the advent of spring.

In Solks’ words, the milk purchase price might fluctuate slightly in April, but major price changes are unlikely. "The price might still decrease somewhat, but steep price hikes or drops are not being expected," he said.

In February 2017, the average milk purchase price was EUR 299.96 per ton.

The Latvian Central Dairy Association unites dairy companies and business partners, selling some 80% of the dairy products made in Latvia.
