Press subscription in Latvia has dropped by 4.2 % to 398,722 subscriptions for 2017, Latvian national postal company Latvijas Pasts reported LETA.

"There is a positive trend in the subscription period – 65% of the subscriptions made so far are for 10-12 months, 11% of subscriptions are for 6-9 months, 23% for 1-3 months and 1 % for 4-5 months," the company representatives said.

Latvijas Pasts has implemented an action plan in order to preserve the press subscription tradition, improving times of delivery in almost 50 territories, said the company’s board chairman Marcis Vilcans.

Residents of Latvia’s rural areas still are the most active press subscribers, accounting for 76% of subscriptions sold so far, while 16% of subscriptions have been made by residents of the Latvian capital Riga and 8% by residents in other largest Latvian towns.

Latvijas Pasts is fully owned by the Latvian state and provides mail, philately, transportation, express mail, financial, press and IT services, and is also involved in retail trade.
