New car registration jumps 18% in January-July in Latvia

With 11,166 new passenger cars registered in Latvia in the first seven months of 2016, new car registration in Latvia increased by 18% year-on-year, the Latvian Auto Association informed LETA.

During the seven-month period, the number of passenger car registrations rose by 22.9% to 9,954 vehicles, while registration of new commercial autos increased 11.1% to 1,212 vehicles.


The association's representatives said that this year's largest corporate deal so far was the upgrading of the State Police's fleet, which had allowed Opel Mokka to climb to the third spot in the list of ten best selling autos.


In the seven months of this year the ten most popular car brands included Nissan Qasqai (400 cars), VW Golf (312), Opel Mokka (297), VW Passat (275), Toyota Auris (227), Toyota RAV4 (207), Toyota Avensis (193), VW Tiguan (181) and Skoda Octavia (180), as well as Nissan X-Trail (169).
