EU commissioner promises new solutions to dairy sector crisis in July
The meeting is scheduled on July 18.
EU agriculture ministers on June 28th started a two-day meeting on the situation in the dairy and pig farming sectors.
Latvian Agricultural Minister Janis Duklavs (Greens/Farmers) insisted at the meeting that it is necessary for the EU to provide direct financial support to the Latvian dairy and pig farming sectors after Russian food products embargo because the measures implemented so far have not been sufficient.
The Agriculture Ministry has several times allocated financing from the state budget to support farmers to partly cover the loss and stabilize the situation in the sector.
According to the ministry’s estimates, the uncompensated reduction of revenues to the dairy farms will reach EUR 132.7 million, and in the pork sector it will exceed EUR 23 million by the end of this year.
