The Lithuanian and Algerian authorities are finalizing veterinary certificates for Lithuanian meat product exports to the North African country, the daily Lietuvos Zinios reported on Friday, cites LETA/BNS.

According to Mantas Staskevicius, head of the Veterinary Sanitary Division at the State Food and Veterinary Service (SFVS), the export certificate approval process is also underway with other Muslim counties, including the United Arab Emirates Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Oman, Qatar and Tunisia.

Lithuania has recently had veterinary certificates approved by Iran and is already exporting Halal-compliant beef to Egypt and Lebanon.

According to the SFVS, some 51 tons of chilled and frozen Lithuanian beef last year were exported to Egypt and 77 tons to Lebanon.

Almost 500 tons of Halal-compliant beef were exported to France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Belgium and other EU markets in the first quarter of 2016.

Four Lithuanian meat processors currently comply with the requirements, the paper wrote.
