Trigon's Gate Tallinn mall still delayed

BC, Tallinn, 13.05.2016.Print version
Although detailed planning of the Gate Tallinn shopping mall on the outskirts of the Estonian capital began already 11 years ago, actual construction has not started and representatives of the developer do not give concrete information about it, the regional newspaper Harju Elu says, cites LETA/BNS.

"The detailed planning process was first initiated in 2005 and a detailed plan was approved in 2009," Andres Laisk, the mayor of the rural municipality of Saue on whose territory the mall is to be built, recalls.

The Gate Tallinn project is developed by Trigon Capital led by Joakim Helenius. "Times were economically good and thought was given to what to do. It was found that why not create such a trade park on the outskirts of the city," Helenius' subordinate Martin Mets told the paper speaking about the restart of Gate Tallinn planning in 2014.

A new detailed plan was approved in 2015 and building permits for infrastructure construction were issued in the same year.

According to Mets, the current plan is to create a big box-type shopping center where the area of buildings would be in a range of 3,000 – 25,000 square meters and which would have a total of 120,000 square meters of retail space. In one part of the plot 150 apartments would be put up and in another, a gas station.

Mets said Trigon Capital has already invested around 10 million euros in the project. The trade park that would cost 100-120 million euros to build should be completed in 2020, but it's still not clear when construction will begin.

Mets was also unwilling to disclose the number of lessees with whom agreements have been concluded.

The trade park should go up at the junction of the Tallinn ring road and Parnu Road in the Saue municipality.
