The Estonian government on April 28th introduced a new labor market service and job creation support proposed by the minister of health and labor, Jevgeni Ossinovski, which will be paid to employers who hire at least 20 jobless residents of East-Viru County within one month, reports LETA/BNS.

Under the new measure, 50% of an employee's gross wages will be reimbursed during one year both to companies that are starting operations and to those who relocate to or expand in East-Viru County.

The ceiling of the support was set at double the minimum wage or 860 euros. The target group of the new measure includes not only workers who have lost their jobs in mass redundancies but all residents of East-Viru County who have been out of work for the last six months.

Ossinovski said the purpose of the support is to foster job creation in the region that has the highest level of unemployment in Estonia. At the end of March registered unemployment in Estonia stood at 5.1% but was 12.4% in East-Viru County. "The new support is an important step towards solving the social crisis and it will help diversify the economic structure of the East-Viru region," he said.

The volume of the support until the end of 2017 is three million euros which is expected to produce more than 600 new jobs. "Going by initial consultations, it can be said that entrepreneurs are taking much interest in this support," the minister added.
