The profit of the alcohol producer Altia Eesti AS declined 43% year over year to 916,633 euros in 2015, which the company attributed to the higher excise tax, informs LETA/BNS.

Sales of Altia Eesti totaled 32.3 million euros last year, marking a reduction of 13% from 2014. The drop was primarily the result of a reduction in the sales of strong alcoholic beverages in Estonia, the company said.

In 2015, the company managed to slightly increase exports to Latvia, Sweden and Finland, and to sell almost two million euros' worth of alcoholic beverages to Poland and Denmark, new markets for Altia Eesti. Other new markets added during the period include Lebanon, the United States, the UK, Canada, Lithuania, Hungary and Belgium. Vodka sales in Estonia meanwhile dropped 22% to 25.4 million euros.

Altia Eesti invested 702,000 euros in expanding production facilities during the year. In 2016, the company is planning to increase the share of exports via other companies of the Altia group and by directing production from other production units of Altia group to Estonia.

Altia Eesti AS employed 86 people on the average during 2015 and wage costs for the period inclusive of social tax totaled 2 million euros. Altia Eesti, subsidiary of Altia Corporation of Finland, is the second biggest alcohol producer in Estonia.
