BC, Vilnius, 26.04.2016.Print version
The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) estimates that Lithuania's grain production this year will amount to 5.316 million tons, lower than last year's record level, and Lithuanian grain growers' forecast is somewhat more modest, the business daily Verslo Zinios reported on April 26th, cites LETA/BNS.

The USDA predicts that Lithuania's wheat production will decline to 3.55 million tons this season, from 4.38 million tons last year. However, it expects the country's wheat exports to increase to over 3 million tons, from 2.2 million tons in 2015.

Ausrys Macijauskas, chairman of the Lithuanian Grain Growers' Association, says that the crops are in a good condition in many regions of the country, with only a few areas affected by cold temperatures.

He forecasts that the country's grain production may total 4.5 million to 5 million tons this year, down from 6.5 million tons last year.
