8.4% reduction in export of wooden furniture from Latvia registered in January

In the first months of the year 2016, the value of Latvia’s wooden furniture export dropped by 8.4% against a year before to EUR 9.975 million, making up 6.3% of total forestry industry exports, informs LETA, according to the data provided by the Forest Department of the Latvian Agriculture Ministry.

Like in previous years, Latvia shipped the largest amount of wooden furniture, or 18.4%, to Germany, which received EUR 1.83 million worth of these goods from Latvia. Denmark followed with EUR 1.77 million and the UK with EUR 0.8 million worth of furniture, which made up 17.8% and 8.9% of Latvia’s total furniture exports respectively.

 

Meanwhile, Latvia’s wooden furniture imports increased 4.9% year-on-year, from EUR 3 million in January 2015 to EUR 3.152 million in January of this year. Of that amount, 27.7% were received from Poland, 11.7% from Lithuania, and 7.9% from Italy. In monetary terms, furniture imports from these countries were worth EUR 873,700, EUR 370,400 and EUR 248,100 respectively.

 

As reported, last year the value of Latvia’s wooden furniture export rose by 2.85% against a year before to EUR 128.01 million, making up 6.2% of total forestry industry exports.

 

Meanwhile, Latvia’s wooden furniture imports dropped 9% year-on-year, from EUR 64 million in 2014 to EUR 58 million in 2015.
