Estonia's January-October meat exports reduced by EUR 1.2 mln

Meat and meat products worth altogether 63.8 million euros were exported from Estonia in the first ten months of 2015, 900,000 euros more than during the same period the year before; the export of meat and meat products of Estonian origin meanwhile was down by 1.2 million euros at 45.7 million euros, informs LETA/BNS.

Fresh, refrigerated and frozen pork ranked first among different product categories with 16.5 million euros, accounting for 25.9% of total exports of meat and meat products, the Ministry of Rural Affairs said in its blog.

 

In volume terms, the export of pork amounted to 8,220 tons, 1,641 tons more than in the same period in 2014. Of the exported pork 62.5% was of Estonian origin.

 

The next biggest export item was canned meat with 14.5 million euros and a share of 23% in total exports, and sausages and other meat products with 11.4 million euros and 17.9%, said Mariann Roos, head of the office for trade and organization of the alcohol market at the ministry.

 

The main country of destination for exports was Latvia, where 39.8% of exports were headed to in the ten months. Net came Finland with 24.6% and Lithuania with 16.3%. Countries where meat and meat products were exported to from Estonia numbered 33.

 

Imports of meat and meat products came to 89.8 million euros, 2.5 million euros more than in the first ten months of 2014. Meat and meat products made up 7.8% of the total imports of agricultural products and food.

 

Pork also topped the list of imports, with 35.9 million euros' worth of pork imported in the ten months. In second place was poultry with 22.5 million euros and in third place canned meat with 13.8 million euros. The main trading partners in import were Lithuania with 20.8%, Poland with 12.6%, Denmark with 12.4% and Finland with 12.3%.
