Excise tax to be charged on e-cigarettes in Latvia in 2016

Electronic cigarettes will added to be list of excised goods and excise tax on smoking tobacco will be raised under amendments to the excise tax law passed by Saeima on November 30th, informs LETA.

In accordance with the legislative amendments, the excise tax rate on one milliliter of e-liquids used in electronic cigarettes has been set at EUR 0.01 and the tax rate on nicotine at EUR 0.005 per milliliter.

 

The excise tax rate will be increased on smoking tobacco and tobacco leaves. As of January 1, 2016, the tax rate will be EUR 58 per kilogram of smoking tobacco. The tax will go up to EUR 60 per kilogram in 2017 and to EUR 62 per kilogram in 2018.

 

Lawmakers also approved the proposal to charge excise tax also on heat-not-burn cigarettes.
