Estonian minister backs unification of business support structures

Estonia's Minister of Entrepreneurship Liisa Oviir supports the proposal to unite all state-run business support and development organizations made by the umbrella organization of employers, informs LETA.

"By and large, the proposal of the Estonian Employers' Confederation corresponds to my own preliminary assessment of the best way to organize the structure. The current fragmentation causes a situation where it's difficult for entrepreneurs to obtain information," the minister told BNS adding that the present state of things is inefficient also from the perspective of cooperation among organizations.

Oviir said she could at first tackle unification of Kredex, Enterprise Estonia and Development Fund. "I have told the prime minister as well that I'd be ready to look at and include also others in this system, but initially we're dealing with the three big organizations. If I get the government's mandate I'd like to include the other organizations too because duplication is impractical for both entrepreneurs and the state."

The Employers' Confederation on Friday sent the minister a letter proposing to unite into one entity various state-run business support and development organizations such as Enterprise Estonia, Kredex, Agricultural Registers and Information Board (PRIA), Development Fund, and Environmental Investment Center (KIK), and transfer into the future organization's area of responsibility also the enterprise-related measures and activities that today function through ministries, universities or other institutions. The same institution would be in charge also of using research funds, in particular funds intended for applied research, for raising the competitiveness of enterprise.
