“It is very important for us to get China’s certificates for the Lithuanian dairy products as soon as possible. We are also ready to meet with their experts and to open talks on the exports of beef products to your country,” a press release from the government’s press service quoted Butkevicius as saying.

According to the press release, Li Keqiang said at the meeting that China’s market needed safe and high quality products made by Lithuania.

The two prime ministers also discussed bilateral relations as well as commercial and economic ties.

Butkevicius invited China’s businesses to make use of existing infrastructure, including intermodal terminals, container shuttle trains Saule, Sestokai Express and Vikingas, as well as the port of Klaipeda.

Last week, Lithuania and China signed a protocol on veterinary and hygiene requirements for dairy product and livestock exports to the Asian country. The protocol is a formal trade authorization. How soon exports are actually launched will depend on when export certificates are approved.

All major Lithuanian milk processors and livestock growers and sellers have already expressed their wish to begin exports to China.
