Council okays plan to set up Tallinn Hospital

BC, Tallinn, 13.11.2015.Print version
The council of Tallinn has endorsed an order whereby the city government must come up by next summer with a plan to merge the city's two main hospitals into a new 700-bed entity called Tallinn Hospital, informs LETA/BNS.

After the completion of the new hospital complex the East Tallinn Central Hospital and the West Tallinn Central Hospital will merge to make up Tallinn Hospital.

The hospital will also offer significantly wider opportunities for day treatment and better meet the needs of rapidly developing medical rehabilitation, the explanatory text accompanying the order says. Optimal arrangement of support services is important both in medical treatment as well as in the management of facilities. The new hospital's emergency department must represent the absolute top in emergency medicine.

In September this year a 14-strong work group was set up to oversee the project of Tallinn Hospital.

The plan for the establishment of Tallinn Hospital sets out a timetable for conducting the feasibility study and cost-benefit analysis concerning the new hospital as well as their key points. It also examines the possibility to involve the Health Insurance Fund, EU structural funds and the state budget as finance providers.
