Parlt approves Grybauskaite's veto on amendments to Law on Provision of Information to Public

BC, Vilnius, 22.09.2015.Print version
The Seimas in Lithuania has voted in favour of President Dalia Grybauskaite's veto and will reconsider amendments to the Law on the Provision of Information to the Public, reports LETA/ELTA.

79 MPs voted in favour of adopting the law with the president's proposals, 3 voted against and 26 abstained.

Earlier, on 23 June, the Seimas had adopted amendments to the Law that would have allowed political parties to be producers and/or participants of the public information.

Chief Advisor to the President, Rasa Svetikaite, has said that the law would have abolished a safeguard preventing political parties from owning media outlets.
