BC, Tallinn, 24.08.2015.Print version
The European Commission have received a complaint regarding potentially unlawful State aid to public-sector hospitals in Estonia, writes Äripäev.ee/LETA.

If the Commission will find that the Health Insurance Fund have provided unlawful State aid to hospitals, the fund will have to pay billions of euros in compensation.

The European Commission are analysing a complaint from the Estonian Association of Private Health Care Establishments regarding illegal State aid to State-run hospitals. The initial opinion from the Commission indicates that financing of hospitals from the Health Insurance Fund might potentially violate State aid regulations. Estonia are required to provide answers to a questionnaire of a dozen pages.

The budget for the Health Insurance Fund for purchasing medical treatment services from health care institutions for the year 2015 amounts to more than 900 million euros.
