Lithuania's National Land Service launches internal inquiry

BC, Vilnius, 23.08.2015.Print version
Lithuania's National Land Service (NZT) has launched internal inquiry over possible conflict of public and private interests in its Vilnius City Division, informs LETA/ELTA.

The NZT said in a statement that the inquiry is related to possible conflict of interests of Deputy Head of Vilnius City Division, Zaneta Sabockiene. She may have carried out certain actions and taken decisions beneficial to company Geodeziniai Matavimai, owned by her husband Arvydas Sabockis.

Director of the NZT, Daiva Gineikaite, has stated that the situation will be ascertained promptly and, if suspicions are confirmed, the guilty party will be held accountable. She also stressed that the Service, cooperating with the law enforcement, has in recent months uncovered possibly illegal activities of a number of employees. Therefore, if transgressions are discovered in this case, the information will be transferred to the law enforcement and the Chief Official Ethics Commission (VTEK).

She said the actions of the deputy head of Vilnius City Division raised doubts, thus the inquiry was launched into possible illegal approval of land cadastral data.

Sabockiene has worked at Vilnius City Division of the NZT since July 2013. Her husband Arvydas Sabockis was a candidate to become the head of the NZT, but did not win the competition.
