KVV Liepajas metalurgs plans to resume full-scale operations in October; hopes for support

BC, Riga, 19.08.2015.Print version
The joint-stock metallurgical company KVV Liepajas metalurgs plans to resume full-scale operations in October 2015, however, it will require support from the Latvian government, the company's board member Igor Talanov said in an interview with Latvian State Radio today, cites LETA.

By launching the second rolling mill, the company could employ 220 workers, and the plant could finally return to profit, said Talanov.

However, the company's strategy, which will be presented to the government today, requires support from the state. The board member explained that metallurgical plants in other countries – Poland, Germany, France – receive all support from their governments they need.

Today, KVV Liepajas metalurgs will request the government to provide support for energy efficiency measures, especially with regard to the rolling mill. By investing EUR 1.5-2 million, the production costs would reduce by EUR 5-7 per ton. This would increase the efficiency of rolling facilities and competitiveness of the production.

Another issue concerns the mandatory procurement component and tax incentives.
