In the first half of the year a total of 5.301 million decaliters of beer was produced in Latvia, which is by 5% less than compared to the first six months of 2014, reports LETA, according to the State Revenue Service's data.

Last year beer production in Latvia declined 34% due to decrease in beer production by one of the largest beer breweries Aldaris as it moved part of its production outside of Latvia, says the State Revenue Service.

In the first six months Latvia imported 4.401 million decaliters of beer – a 2% decrease compared to the first six months of 2014.

Altogether in the first half of the year, 8.344 million decaliters were available for purchase in Latvia – a 6% increase compared to the first half of 2014.

At the end of June 2015, 30 companies had the status of an independent small brewery. They accounted for 22% of all the beer brewed in Latvia in the first half of the year – an increase of 2% compared to the first six months in 2014. The State Revenue Service notes that independent small breweries have been in business for a long time and have significant influence on beer production volumes in Latvia.
