BC, Riga, 03.08.2015.Print version
The Food and Veterinary Service has announced an African swine fever quarantine in several counties in Vilaka and Gulbene regions, informs LETA, according to an announcement in the government's official newspaper Latvijas Vestnesis.

The quarantine zone ranges throughout Vilaka Region's Vecumi, Medneva, and Skilbeni counties due to a recent African swine fever case in Vecumi County.

Meanwhile, Gulbene County has established a quarantine zone in Lejasciems, Belava, and Galgauska counties, as the disease was found in Lejasciems County.

It is prohibited to transport pigs and boars outside the quarantine zone without a special permission from the Food and Veterinary Service. It is also prohibited to transport pig sperm, egg cells, and embryos, as well as pork meat, outside the quarantine zone.

People are urged to report all dead wild boars to the Food and Veterinary Service.

As reported, African swine fever has been found in 426 wild boars in 78 counties of 28 regions so far this year.
