Price labelling to change from July in Lithuania

BC, Vilnius, 29.06.2015.Print version
On Tuesday, 30 June, will be the last day in Lithuania of mandatory price labelling in two currencies – the litas and the euro. As of 1 July, traders will be allowed to give prices only in the euro, but they can still continue with dual price labelling on a voluntary basis, informs LETA/ELTA.

Lithuania's Finance Ministry reminds that dual price labelling was mandatory in Lithuania from 22 August, 2014 to 30 June, 2015, that is, for more than 10 months.

Prices in two different currencies allowed residents to adapt faster to the new currency; also, it was one of the means to protect consumers from potential abuses in price conversion processes.

Under a recommendation of the European Commission, dual price labelling should not last more than 12 months following the euro adoption, although a specific period of showing prices in two currencies is established and revised by the state itself.
