On June 5th 2015, Prime Minister of Estonia Taavi Rõivas attended a round table concerning entrepreneurship at UT Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, where it was concluded that there is a need to support the cooperation between universities and enterprises and thereby the courage and willingness of young people to generate new ideas for business activities, reports BC governmental press service.

According to the Prime Minister, Tartu has a strong position in the field of start-up enterprises, and the universities certainly play an important role in it. However, the participants of the round table note that today, there is insufficient overlapping of entrepreneurship and innovation, and development and education in Estonia. At the same time, there is currently little capital in those economy sectors in Estonia where the universities would be able and could create added value.

The participants of the round table find that one of the key factors in promoting the entrepreneurship of the youth is supporting pupils and students in converting their ideas into practice.

Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas concluded that making success stories visible plays a crucial role here. “The more examples there are for potential young entrepreneurs of the fact that anything is possible, the more there is courage for entrepreneurship. Events like Garage48 have already demonstrated a positive influence," added Rõivas.

According to the Prime Minister, steps towards Europe’s digital single market are also important for Estonia. “If the digital single market will actually be applied and we are ready for it, it offers an abundance of opportunities for Estonian entrepreneurs.”

In addition to the Prime Minister and the Mayor of Tartu, representatives and entrepreneurs of University of Tartu, UT Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and the Ministry of Education and Research participated in the round table.

The Prime Minister also visited Tartu Centre for Creative Industries that operates both as incubation and an umbrella organisation for creative enterprises. The Prime Minister received an overview of the activities of the centre, the projects of Tartu Film Pavilion and Tartu Film Fund, and got acquainted with the enterprises operating in Tartu Centre for Creative Industries.
