LNT chief: new LTV channel in Russian will be labeled as propaganda

BC, Riga, 08.06.2015.Print version
A Latvian Television (LTV) channel in the Russian language is illogical, as it will immediately be labeled a propaganda vehicle, where "Latvians will be trying to convince Russians of something," this according to LNT television channel co-owner and general director, Andrejs Ekis, who commented in an interview with the newspaper Neatkariga, reports LETA.

"This is so useless – total madness! Who is going to watch it?" the lifelong media expert asks. "Are they going to invest six million in a channel and then spend more money on it every year?"

According to Ekis, there is no clarity about the objective. "If politicians want to buy the audience, they must understand that it would be better to spend the funding on a specific program, advertisement, or information cycle to address the people," says Ekis.

As reported, the National Electronic Mass Media Council decided on March 19 to approve the establishment of a third Latvian Television channel. Content will be presented in the Russian language and it will be broadcast in all of Latvia.
