TeliaSonera: delay in merger between Lattelecom and LMT reduces their value

BC, Riga, 28.05.2015.Print version
Delay in the merger between the telecommunications company Lattelecom and mobile communications operator Latvijas Mobilais Telefons (LMT) will reduce their value, believes Kenneth Radne, a representative of TeliaSonera – an enterprise that owns shares in the said companies, informs LETA.

Radne told media representatives that during the recent talks with a task group delegated by the Latvian government, it was decided that the global tendencies and necessity to merge telecommunications companies ought to be followed, however, proposals regarding Lattelecom and LMT merger are not being revealed.

According to Radne, TeliaSonera representatives have presented their vision of the future of telecommunications companies, according to which clients want wider choice of services, including better approachability. TeliaSonera believes that this is possible by merging telecommunications networks – optic, mobile, and wireless.

Radne says that merging stationary and mobile enterprises has been successfully achieved in several countries – Sweden, Finland, and Estonia, while several others are still in the process. Latvia, too, should follow this tendency. TeliaSonera representative believes that concerns that these mergers could destabilize the situation in the telecommunications market are unjustified, as confirmed by examples in other countries where mergers in general have led to lower prices.
