KVV Liepajas metalurgs to lay off 15% of staff
"There is no way of telling the exact number of employees who will be released. The company's owners are still conducting calculations, redesigning the business plan, but the final figure will be known only afterwards," said Ozolina.
Taking into account that at the beginning of May, 960 people had a job at KVV Liepajas metalurgs, 15% could be equal to 150 employees, as LETA has tabulated.
The Economy Ministry promises that the electric bill for KVV Liepajas metalurgs will be less, as stipulated by the ministry's draft regulations, however, this requires time. The said draft regulations stipulate that the cheaper rate could apply to five to ten high-power production plants.
As reported, KVV Liepajas metalurgs has been instructed to curb output at its steel casting plant, as the production costs are too high, and they undermine competitiveness of the company's products compared to those made by counterparts elsewhere in the European Union and the world, KVV Liepajas metalurgs board member Igor Kovalenko told LETA.
