Funded health services, medicines and benefits totaled 908 mln euros in Estonia in 2014

The Estonian Health Insurance Fund (EHIF) council approved the annual reports of the fund for the year 2014, according to which it funded health services, medicines and benefits for a total of 908 million euros, which is 78 million more than the year before, reports LETA.

The health services budget finances disease prevention, general medical care, specialized medical care, nursing care, dental care, and health promotion areas. The total funding for health services reached 664 million euros in 2014.

 

In 2014, medicines were compensated for insured persons for 109.8 million euros. The medicine compensations financing grew by 6.2% compared to 2013.

 

Temporary work disability or sick leave compensations in 2014 were 103.9 million euros, which is 9.8 million more than in the previous year. The benefits increased 10%, exceeding the budget by 8%.

 

The fund financed cross-border health care for slightly more than 10 million euros, including planned treatments for 3.9 million euros and 6.1 million euros for using opportunities created for Estonian hearth insurance holders by European Union legislation.
