Estonian dairy producers have to pay 2.2 mln euros of quota breaking fines

BC, Tallinn, 05.05.2015.Print version
Estonians farmers fulfilled 101.16% of their 2014/2015 milk quota year's supply quota, according to adjusted data, meaning that the 280 producers who broke the supply quota must pay a total of over 2.2 million euros of quota breaking fines, LETA/Postimees Online reports.

In the quota year that ended, Estonia's milk quota was 692,926,049 kg. The majority of it was supply quota (688,083,544 kg) and a smaller quantity was direct sales quota (4,842,505 kg). 765 producers altogether had the quota, 669 had supply quota and 158 direct sales quota.

Estonian direct sales quota was 70.91% full, supply quota 105.04% full.

To find the amount that is subject to quota breaking fee, the Estonian Agricultural Registries and Information Board adjusted the figures by reserve quotas and unfulfilled quotas.

The result was that there were 280 producers who exceeded the supply quota. They have to pay a fine of 27.83 euros per 100 kg. The producers thus have to pay altogether 2,218,212 euros.

Payment of the quota breaking fines can be rescheduled over three years. Those who do not apply for that possibility, have to pay the fine before 1 October.
