First Baltic Channel most frequently fined television channel in Latvia in 2014

Pirmais Baltijas Kanals (The First Baltic Channel) was the most frequently punished television channel in 2014 in atvia. In 2014, the National Electronic Mass Media Council fined The First Baltic Channel for a total of three times. Meanwhile, the largest fine was applied to Latvian Television (LTV), according to information collected by LETA.

The National Electronic Mass Media Council issued a total of 17 administrative fines.

 

The First Baltic Channel was fined with EUR 3,600 in May 2014 for presenting biased and unilateral information on its television broadcast "Vremya", as well as EUR 1,000 due to violations regarding the use of the Latvian language.

 

In October, the National Electronic Mass Media Council fined The First Baltic Channel with EUR 1,000 for presenting biased and unilateral information on its television broadcast "Vremya".

 

The largest fine – EUR 12,500 – was applied to LTV due to display of indirect gambling advertisements using the FIFA World Cup advertising block.

 

In 2014, LTV was fined with EUR 700 for displaying a movie during daytime that features violent and gory scenes.
