Latvian Brivais vilnis halts production for summer

The Latvian fish processing company Brivais vilnis plans to temporary halt its production in order to carry out maintenance works at the factory, according to the company's announcement submitted to the "Nasdaq" Riga Stock Exchange, reports LETA.

The company plans to resume production in August. Until then, more than 400 employees will be without a job until production is resumed.

 

Brivais vilnis management report indicates that the company, as a member of the Union of Latvian Fish Processing Industry, will continue working to postpone tax payments due to the unstable economic situation in Russia, Ukraine, and Central Asia.

 

Regardless of tensions in these regions, Brivais vilnis has found new export markets and will being exports to Mexico. The company has also signed agreements with a new client in Finland. The company plans to increase its product offer in France.

 

Also, there are ongoing discussions with partners in China. In order to start export to China, there is a need to have agreements between governments of both countries.

 

As reported, Brivais vilnis operated with EUR 12.84 million in turnover last year, which is 8% less than in 2013, when the company operated with EUR 14.09 million in turnover.
