Lithuania guilty too for Norway's salmon consignment stuck at border with Russia

BC, Vilnius, 24.04.2015.Print version
Dr Jonas Milius, Director of Lithuania's State Food and Veterinary Service (VMVT), says that Norway's salmon consignment which was stuck at the border with Russia and now is returned back to Lithuania should have been checked more carefully in Lithuania, re[orts LETA/ELTA.

Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselchoznadzor) has returned a 18.6 ton consignment, which had to travel from Norway to Kazakhstan via Russia and Lithuania, back to Klaipeda Port because markings on some goods did not coincide with certificates issued in Norway.

According to Dr Milius, although the biggest fault here lies with a Norwegian company, the Lithuanian inspectors, too, should have checked the consignment more carefully.

The VMVT head said that breaches were not serious, frozen salmon had not expired. As soon as new certificates are received in a couple of days, the consignment will go to Kazakhstan.
