On Friday, 3 April 2015, Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius visited Vilnius' apparel and textile companies Audejas and Lelija. The prime minister and representatives of apparel and textile sector discussed promotion of export, training of specialists and other relevant issues, informs LETA/ELTA.

At the meeting much attention was devoted for science and industry cooperation. On Friday, the Lithuanian Apparel and Textile Industry Association signed a cooperation agreement with the state research institute Centre for Physical Sciences and Technology.

"I welcome the move and am sure that it will significantly contribute towards innovative solutions in the industry and that with the help of top scientists in the country Lithuanian companies will successfully compete in the international market," said the head of Government.

The meeting also addressed matters relevant to the industry. Members of the presidium of the Lithuanian Apparel and Textile Industry Association noted that companies of this sector export nearly 90 percent of their production, thus new export opportunities must be looked into.

The participants of the meeting also discussed the training of specialists and labour relations.

According to Euratex, the European Apparel and Textile Organisation, Lithuania was among the top three fastest growing apparel and textile producers in 2014.
