Latvian FinMin urges action concerning the construction of new wing at Stradins Hospital

BC, Riga, 18.03.2015.Print version
It needs to be made clear by April 2015 what to do with the construction of a new wing at Pauls Stradins Clinical University Hospital in Riga; only then will we know whether this project will receive European Union (EU) funds, Finance Minister Janis Reirs (Unity) said in an interview with the LTV show "Rita panorama", reports LETA.

This issue cannot be postponed until May as it will be too late then, Reirs said.

With regard to EU funding, the Finance Ministry has received a report from the Central Finance and Contracting Agency. The ministry still expects a conclusion from the Health Ministry.

The Finance Ministry's representative Diana Rancane previously told LETA that the level of risk in the hospital's construction project is at the highest level, which means that the hospital may not receive full funding from the European Regional Development Fund, as there is no clarity on how the project will proceed and what payments can be made by the end of the year.

As reported, the construction of the new wing at Pauls Stradins Clinical University Hospital has been halted due to various flaws in the structure.
