During an emergency shareholders' meeting yesterday called by Health Ministry State Secretary Solvita Zvidrina, Normunds Stals was appointed member of the board at the Pauls Stradins Clinical University Hospital; the new member will be in charge of construction projects there, reports LETA.

According to the hospital's regulations, its board can include up to three members. Up to now, there were two: Chairman Dins Smits and board member Anda Caksa.

As a Stradins' Hospital spokesperson informed, Stals will be in charge of all construction projects at the hospital; his experience and knowledge will be invaluable in implementation of the hospital's major infrastructure development project.

According to LETA files, Stals graduated from the Latvia University of Agriculture in 2001, he has been project manager at Anitra since 2001. Stals owns several real estate properties and shares in the company called Marcon.

Construction of a new Stradins Hospital wing was halted by the Riga Construction Board last Wednesday after inspectors reported several shortcomings in the project, pointing to poor-quality work.

The spokesperson told LETA that construction project was put on hold to ensure safety and quality of the new building.
