Although the Russian market was closed off, Lithuania's dairy processors have diversified their production and continue exporting, says Minister of Agriculture Virginija Baltraitiene. However, the alternative markets to that of Russia are not so profitable, reports LETA/ELTA.

"We have enough markets available as we can export milk to more than 100 countries. We have always had these markets available for us, yet, they are not as profitable as the Russian market," the minister said on the radio Ziniu Radijas on Thursday morning.

The agriculture minister says that milk processors have reduced the volume of production of perishable dairy products and now focus their exports on longkeeping products, such as butter, cheese, and milk powder.

"Our companies are currently diverting their production from perishable products, such as yogurt, curd, and sour cream, to production of butter or cheese. Butter exports in the previous year grew by 11 times," Baltraitiene said.
