On February 13th 2015, joint-stock KVV Liepajas metalurgs began operating its rolling mill in test mode, the company's board member Igors Kovalenko informed LETA.

KVV Liepajas metalurgs has already laid the groundwork to resume production in its rolling mill. 221 employees have been reinstated in their jobs.

Rolling mill specialists and technologists are still being hired, thus, the mill will provide a work place for a total of 551 employees.

''This is a historical moment for our employees, as well as for Liepaja and Latvia as a whole, as the Baltics' largest metallurgical company is gradually beginning to resume production,'' Kovalenko pointed out.

"At the same time, the company is dealing with raw material procurements, acquisition of export markets, as well as preparatory work to resume operations in the steel mill," Kovalenko explained.

As reported, the Ukrainian company KVV Group won the Liepajas metalurgs tender and the right to acquire the metallurgical plant for EUR 107 million.

KVV Group said it intended to invest an additional EUR 30 million into Liepajas metalurgs and resume production this year.

It is said that KVV Liepajas metalurgs will employ no more than 1,300-1,400 people. The plant's rolling mill will begin to operate in February, the electric steel melting furnace – in March, Kovalenko previously said.
