Latvian Revenue Service: situation at Gan Bei improving

BC, Riga, 29.01.2015.Print version
In an interview on Latvian Television this morning, State Revenue Service General Director Inara Petersone said that during her discussions with the management of the Gan Bei restaurant chain this week, she believes that the company has realized its mistakes and would like to continue work, informs LETA.

The State Revenue Service has noticed that the tax payment and salary situation has improved dramatically since the tax-fraud scandal was revealed. The company has also changed its cash registers.

Petersone emphasized that despite the improvements, the Revenue Service will continue to closely monitor the situation at the company. ''If the company continues with the steps it has implemented, we are certainly interested in allowing the company to continue operating,'' the SRS chief added.

As reported, the organized group connected to the owners of the Gan Bei restaurant chain stole between EUR 700,000 to EUR 800,000 per month from the company's cash registers, or approximately 50 percent of monthly turnover. This past December, the Finance Police detained seven persons involved in this scheme, including the wife of MP Sergejs Potapkins (Harmony), who was one of the ring leaders of this criminal group.

According to ''Firmas.lv'', the Gan Bei chain of restaurants is operated by the company Lage Ko.

In 2013, Lage Ko achieved EUR 11.5 million in turnover and posted EUR 238,877 in profit.
