During the meeting, the minister briefed the ambassador about the situation of the Latvian agricultural sector at the moment, as well as discussed future cooperation possibilities and the export of Latvian agricultural goods to Tajikistan.

''We see potential in developing trade and increasing our exported goods to Tajikistan. Taking into account Russia's food embargo, Latvian producers are interested in increasing the export of milk and fish products to this country,'' Duklavs said.

Meanwhile, the Tajik ambassador expressed interest in cooperation in crop farming and livestock, especially in the veterinary sphere by educating Tajik agricultural experts in Latvia.

At the same time, the two sides also agreed on the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between the two sides, which would promote closer cooperation in the agricultural sector between the two countries.

In the first 11 months of 2014, Latvia exported agricultural products to Tajikistan worth EUR 1 million – mostly fish and meat products.
