BC, Vilnius, 30.12.2014.Print version
With 70 votes in favour and 2 abstentions, the Seimas in Lithuania has adopted amendments to the Law on Tobacco Control which transposes all the provisions of Directive 2014/40/EU in so far as they regulate electronic cigarettes, reported LETA/ELTA, referring to the press service of the Seimas.

The adopted amendments regulate restriction on sales of electronic cigarettes and refill containers to minors, in particular to persons under the age of 18. Such persons are prohibited from smoking/consuming and holding of electronic cigarettes or refill containers. The law also bans the purchase of these products for persons under the age of 18 or any other transfer of the same to minors.

In addition, the law establishes general requirements for the composition and quality of electronic cigarettes and refill containers, product market access conditions, etc.

Besides, the law contains provisions, under which the outside packaging of electronic cigarettes and refill containers are not to display such elements that may encourage the purchase of a tobacco product or its consumption by creating an erroneous impression about its characteristics, health effects, risks or emissions; that may create the impression that a particular tobacco product is less harmful than others or may be similar to a food or a cosmetic product. Finally, unit packets or any outside packaging of electronic cigarettes and refill containers must contain one of the health warnings by the Government or an institution authorised by it.
